Auto-Scaling in Meal Plans
What is auto-scaling?
Auto-scaling is the process where Foodzilla automatically adjusts recipes to match your client’s calorie target when generating a new meal plan. For example, if you set a 1500 kcal/day target, the auto-generator will create meals (e.g., 500 kcal for breakfast, 500 kcal for lunch, 500 kcal for dinner) to meet that daily total.
What happens if I edit a plan after generation?
If you change a recipe after the plan is generated, Foodzilla will not re-adjust the calories of that recipe to match the original target.
For example:
- You generate a 1500 kcal/day meal plan (3 meals x 500 kcal each).
- You swap the breakfast recipe with one that has 600 kcal.
- The daily total will now be 1600 kcal, not 1500 kcal.
The generator won’t scale the 600 kcal breakfast down to 500 kcal — it simply uses the new recipe as-is.
Why doesn’t it re-adjust automatically?
The logic is designed this way to give you full control. Many professionals prefer to manually adjust when they swap meals rather than having the system change recipe servings automatically.
How to adjust meals manually
If you want to bring the total back in line with the target, you can:
- Manually adjust recipe servings.
- Replace the recipe with another one closer to the calorie goal.
- Regenerate the plan with your desired targets.
